Perfume on offer? Check the price first

Perfumery often raises the suggested retail price before discounting. The Consumers' Association discovered this.

Price increase before the price is reduced
The Consumers' Association examined 1,436 prices of 175 fragrances at thirteen different stores. They discovered that the crossed-out price was sometimes not used at all before the offer started. In some cases, the suggested retail price is even increased.

There is little advantage left
If you were to calculate the discount percentage based on the price for the offer, the discount percentage sometimes drops to almost half. For example, of a promised discount of 20 percent, only 10 percent remains.

Look and compare
The fact remains that you can save a lot by buying perfume on sale, but it really pays to compare the price at different stores. In some cases, this can save you up to 40 percent.
