What is a connective tissue massage?

This month you can read in Santé how beauty editor Carlijn undergoes a connective tissue massage. But what exactly is it?

A short explanation about connective tissue

Connective tissue consists of cells, fibers and water. It is located between the blood vessels and nerves and has a supporting function. Healthy connective tissue is flexible and stretchable. Stress, too little exercise and heredity can cause the connective tissue to stick. This leads to reduced circulation and tension in your body. You can keep your connective tissue healthy by doing yoga, eating healthy (vegetables, grains and legumes) and you can undergo a connective tissue massage.

What exactly is a connective tissue massage?

Connective tissue massage has been used for about seventy years to stimulate blood circulation. The technology has only really become hot in the last year and a half, partly thanks to celebrities who are fans. By acting on the underlying connective tissue, blood flow is stimulated. It is often done on the legs and back, for example, but also for the face.

The benefits of a connective tissue massage for your face

It provides a fresher complexion. Connective tissue massage also puts the fibroblasts and skin cells to work, causing your skin to produce more collagen and hyaluronic acid. This makes your skin firmer, plumper and better hydrated. Another advantage:after a connective tissue massage, your skin absorbs active substances from serums, masks and creams better.
