Why you should clean your makeup brushes more often

Can you remember the last time you cleaned your makeup brushes? Chances are your brushes could use a cleaning.

Cleaning your makeup brushes regularly prevents them from becoming a breeding ground for bacteria.

What do you use to clean make-up brushes?

There are several products that you can use to clean your brushes. For example, you have special brush cleansers. You can also use a drop of mild shampoo. Olive oil is useful for removing stubborn makeup residue. You can also mix a little olive oil with the shampoo.

Step 1 – Wetting

Have a cloth or towel and brush cleaner handy. If necessary, wipe the worst make-up residue off the brushes with kitchen roll and wet the brushes.

Step 2 – Cleaning

Take a little cleanser or shampoo in your palm and run your brushes through it until all the dirt is gone. Then rinse them well.

Step 3 – Drying

Make sure your brushes are in good shape before drying. You don't want a brush with bristles on all sides. Place them on a clean towel until they are dry.

Step 4 – Patience

Depending on the size of your brushes, they may take a few hours to dry. You can optionally clean the handles of your brushes afterwards with denatured alcohol.

How often should you clean your brushes?

Some guidelines state that you should clean your brushes every week. If you use your brushes often, it is good to do so. A foundation brush can certainly use such a weekly wash. Chances are you don't wash your brushes weekly, but maybe you do if you look closely at this picture:
