Cleaning your hairbrush or comb is very important for the health of your hair. If you don't clean your brush regularly, dirt, such as residue from hair products and oils from your scalp, will remain on the hairs/teeth of your brush. And yes, during your next brushing session this will end up in your hair again… Not exactly the shiny look what you went for, right? So cleaning your brush thoroughly is very important and probably takes less effort than you think. Use the following step-by-step plan to make your hairbrush last for years.

What do you need?

  • Brush
  • Comb (preferably with a pointed end)
  • Toothbrush
  • Large bowl of water
  • Mild shampoo
  • Towel

This is how you do it

1. Keep your brush daily

Remove your hair from your brush every time you use your brush. You can use your hands for this or you can choose to comb your hair from your brush. If you have a pointed comb, use the tip of the comb to pop your hair out of the brush.

2. Use shampoo

Use shampoo about once a month to give your brush a deep clean. This ensures that all oil, hair products and other dirt that have built up in your brush are washed out and do not end up back in your hair. To do this, first fill a large bowl with warm water and move your brush back and forth in it. Do not soak the brush in water, as this can damage the brush cushion. Then drop a mild shampoo on your brush and massage it in with a toothbrush. Finally, rinse the brush. Repeat the rinsing process until the water coming off your brush is clear.

3. Let the brush dry

After washing, wait to use your brush until it is completely dry. To allow the brush to dry best, let it drip on a towel overnight with the brush side down.

So it can be that simple to clean your brush! We will certainly repeat this cleaning ritual every month. Are you in?
