One in five women feel less beautiful in the winter

A majority of women in the Netherlands have more skin complaints in winter than in other seasons. Almost a quarter (23%) therefore feel less attractive in the winter season. People mainly suffer from chapped lips, closely followed by dry hands and dry body skin. More than a third (33%) of Dutch women are aware of their dry or flaky skin several times a day or even constantly. This is apparent from a study by Bio-Oil among more than 1000 Dutch women aged 18 and older.

Almost half (49%) of women indicate that when they suffer from skin complaints, this negatively affects their self-confidence. For women under the age of 30, that percentage is even 71%. In this age group, 38% also sometimes receive negative reactions from the environment. A third of (young) women prefer not to be touched when their skin is bothering them (39%).

68% indicate that her skin needs extra care in inclement weather. One in three women also use other care products in the winter, but only 19% spend more money on skin care this season. Most women (66%) spend 1-15 euros per month on skin care. Women first seek advice about skin care from drugstore/perfumery store staff (36%), then from a general practitioner or specialist (29%) and friends (27%).
