Cosmetic surgery can improve your quality of life

A number of medical and scientific studies show that cosmetic surgery increases a person's self-esteem and attractiveness, ultimately leading to greater achievements and success in life. But less well known is whether others see these positive qualities in the person who has undergone a cosmetic procedure. A recent study now finds that more often than not, people who have undergone facial rejuvenation procedures, including the face, eyelid and eyebrow lift, are often seen as more successful and healthy, not just more physically attractive. The study suggests that cosmetic surgery offers “even greater societal benefits than just restoring a youthful appearance to the face.”

In this study, the researchers surveyed 504 people (333 women, 165 men, and 6 of unspecified gender) who viewed pictures of the patients before or after surgery (not both). For each photo, subjects were asked to rate attractiveness, perceived success, and overall health. They were also asked to guess the age of the person in the photo. Six of the patients had undergone face and eyelid lifts, while the remaining six had undergone facelifts, eyelid lifts, and eyebrow lifts. Overall, the researchers found that the participants rated women higher in post-surgery pictures. They were also perceived as more attractive, healthier and more successful. Participants also felt that the women were younger.
