Do you know this about makeup?

Applying makeup is almost as natural and automatic as getting dressed these days. Many women cannot even leave their home without their favorite products. You can't be blamed for loving yourself with makeup on because it hides a lot of skin imperfections, but there are some things to keep in mind when it comes to makeup. We list them here.

You don't need makeup if you just want to feel more confident

Many women are afraid to let strangers and their friends see them without makeup. If you are one of them, do yourself a favor and don't live like that! There are many things makeup can give you — yes, even confidence — but that's not the most important way to develop confidence in yourself. It is knowing yourself and what you want better, what you know and what you stand for, that you really trust yourself.

Young skin looks better without makeup

Young skin is pure. Don't let makeup ads and social media tell you otherwise. When you are young, give yourself time to enjoy how beautiful you look without makeup. Even if you see freckles and pimples, you don't have to cover them up. You can have imperfections – everyone has them!

Older skin looks better without makeup

When you're older, it's best to leave your skin alone. The more products you apply, the older you look. That's because more products will seep into your deep-seated wrinkles. When you put on too many products, you get more wrinkle problems because those unwanted lines become more obvious. You may be better off with just a moisturizer instead.

Make-up can damage your skin

Dermatologists warn about the potential of products to irritate the skin, even if these products are non-comedogenic. Try this simple experiment. Get all the products from your makeup stash and go through the ingredients one by one. What do you see? You will likely find a list of chemicals and synthetics. These, along with the fragrances, dyes and preservatives, can cause skin and even health problems if you don't start paying attention to what you put on your skin.

Make-up can make your skin age faster

Especially if your makeup is giving you irritated skin, that's a sign that you have inflammation, which is a direct cause of skin damage and aging. Makeup even increases exposure to free radicals, which can damage your skin and, later, your DNA.

Makeup isn't bad, but you don't have to use it every day

Put on make-up every now and then and only put on the make-up you absolutely need - that's it. If you're applying make-up, take it off at night and cleanse your face completely. Anything left behind can always cause an blemish, which in turn can cause an acne breakout.

Makeup is an ideal tool, but it is not a magic wand

Many women see makeup as a tool that makes them feel confident and beautiful. It's a tool meant to enhance your assets and make your less flattering parts better. If you don't think you're beautiful in the first place, no amount of makeup can make you feel like you are.

Focus on keeping your skin clean, clear and smooth instead of compensating for it with makeup

Make-up is fine, but rather focus on taking better care of your skin. Don't irritate your skin unnecessarily by using too much make-up products, putting on products made with aggressive ingredients or forgetting to cleanse your skin and remove make-up residue.
