Makeup tips to make your eyes pop

Makeup at its best brings out your natural tones and skin tone and accentuates your best features. One of those features are the eyes. These makeup tips to make your eyes pop complement your natural beauty and naturally accentuate a very important body part.

1. Know your distance

Putting on mascara and eyeliner can do wonders to make your eyes pop and is truly one of the best makeup tips to make your eyes pop. It's even better to wear them in a way that suits your face. If you have set eyes, don't go for the winged look – your eyes will be even further apart. Apply eyeliner and mascara evenly over the eyelid, including the inner corners of the eyes. If your eyes are close together, you'll want to go for a winged look, or at the very least apply eyeliner to the outer edges of your upper lid, and you want to leave the inner corner of the eyes eyeliner-free. This gives your eyes length and ensures that they are not so close together.

2. Know your eye shape

The shape of your eyes can drastically affect the look of your makeup. Light or bright colors open the eyes and make them appear larger. Dark and bold colors make your eyes look smaller. If you have small almond-shaped eyes, opt for light eyeshadow colors. If you have big, round eyes, feel free to put on dark and bold colors without worrying if they're too dramatic.

3. Know your eye color

There are certain eyeshadow colors that look gorgeous when paired with certain eye colors. Blue eyes pop in combination with gold, brown, beige and other earth tones. Gray eyes pop in combination with gray and blue. Green and hazel eyes go well with purple. Brown eyes are the most versatile and look good with almost any color. However, green tones on brown eyes look particularly dazzling. Experiment with different shades in your color category to find even more dazzling results.

4. Catch the light

The lighter the color of an eyeshadow on the color spectrum, the more natural light it will capture or reflect. When natural light hits light-colored makeup, it automatically draws attention to these spots on your face. Professional makeup artists use this tactic to make the eye area appear larger, and bigger eyes stand out more. They apply light-colored eyeshadow directly under the arch of the eyebrow where it rises, and also in the inner corner of the eyes. This makes the area around the eyes appear larger overall, and the reflections from these illuminated areas are stunning when seen (if you have small eyes, this is a good tip).
