This is how you choose the right color foundation

When it comes to creating an even base for your makeup look, there's no denying that foundation is an absolute must. It's the perfect way to mask blemishes and get flawless coverage, so it's no surprise that this makeup product is a must-have in the beauty world. But it can be difficult to find the right formula for you. We have here some tips to find the perfect color foundation.

What is your skin color?

First of all, you need to know what your skin color is. Your skin tone refers to the natural color of your complexion, and it can range from light to deep. Here's how to determine where you fall within that range.

If you are fair-skinned, you are pale and the similarity to a porcelain doll has probably been noticed a few times. You are usually very sensitive to the sun and burn much more easily than people with dark skin.

If you have a medium skin tone, you are in the middle of it! Your skin tone isn't super dark or super light, but somewhere in between. It will make finding the right foundation much easier. If this is your skin tone, you probably tan quickly in the sun.

If you have a deep skin tone, your skin tone is dark. As with those with medium skin tones, you can still get sun damage, and you should use sunscreen!

Tip:Concentrate on the part of your face near your jawline and not on your cheek. The latter tends to be more pigmented, saturated with a natural blush and less reflective of your true tone.

Do you have skin problems?

You should try to match your foundation to your specific skin concerns – whether it's a health problem (like eczema) or you just want your skin to look more radiant. Foundation is not one-size-fits-all:only you can decide whether it is the right foundation for your unique skin. The main skin types are dry, oily and combination. In addition, you may also be dealing with issues such as dryness, pimples, and sensitivity. Think about your specific skin problems.

How to determine your undertone

While most people probably already have an inkling of what their skin tone is, the same can't always be said for undertones. The difference between the two is as follows:your skin tone refers to your complexion and the tone of your skin, while undertones are the colors that come through the skin and affect the overall tone. The undertone of your skin is cool, warm or neutral.

Cool undertones appear in your complexion as hints of blue or pink, while warm undertones appear more yellow or golden. If your undertones are neutral, you're somewhere in between — not too blushing or too sallow. Try these simple tricks to find your undertone:

Tip 1: Look at the inside of your arm. If your veins appear blue or purple, you have a cool undertone, while green veins indicate a warm undertone. If you're not sure, you may have a neutral undertone.

Tip 2: Hold something white against your skin. Placing something white, such as a piece of paper, next to your face will help you solve the mystery. The white should create a pop of color on your skin. If your face appears pink or blue, you have cool undertones — and if you look yellow, you have warm undertones. If your skin appears gray, you are neutral.

Tip 3: Think about the clothes that get the most compliments. If you consistently get compliments when you wear brown, dark green, or orange shades, your undertone is probably warm. If it happens when you're wearing pinks or pastels, it's safe to assume your undertones are cool. If you get compliments no matter what you wear, you probably have a neutral undertone – or you're just stylish.

What are your coverage needs?

When choosing your coverage level, ask yourself how much you want your natural skin to show. If the answer is a lot, opt for a light foundation or even a well-tinted moisturizer. If the answer isn't much, choose a medium coverage foundation that you can "build" to fuller coverage. You can make any foundation purer by mixing the formula with a moisturizer and/or applying with a damp beauty blender.

Powder vs. liquid foundation:which is better?

Believe it or not, when it comes to the powder foundation versus liquid foundation debate, there isn't one real winner. It's all about your personal preference. Powder foundation is a good idea if you want to avoid heavy makeup. This formula type typically provides sheer coverage to the skin for a light and natural look. And because it's super easy to apply with a makeup brush or sponge, you can easily touch up your face all day long. It also doesn't require much mixing, which can be a plus for beginners.

On the other hand, liquid foundation has its own advantages. These include being able to cover blemishes and other blemishes, offering a variety of finishes, and even giving your skin a touch of hydration (depending on the formula). Another advantage is that when it comes to applying liquid foundation, you can choose from multiple methods. You can use makeup brushes, fingers or a makeup blender to get a smooth and flawless coverage.

In addition to powder and liquid foundation, there are currently several types of foundations on the market such as; mousse foundation and a foundation stick.
