Facial yoga:the perfect combination between relaxation and firming of the skin

Gua Sha stones, rose quartz and jade rollers:the internet is full of facial relaxation exercises. But did you know that, through the right movements, you can also achieve a lot with your own hands and facial muscles? Although relaxation exercises for your body are the most natural thing in the world for many people, your face can also regularly use a moment of relaxation. Facial yoga is relaxing for your mind and has a positive effect on the skin, keeping your face young and firm. NIVEA takes you along in this special me time moment. So breathe in, breathe out… and check the tips below.

The pros of facial yoga

Your face contains more than fifty muscles that you rarely use all of them. With facial yoga these muscles come out of their old familiar, often tense, posture; with positive consequences. Doing facial exercises regularly, for example, stimulates blood circulation in your face. This improves oxygen delivery to the muscles and skin, which can provide an improved complexion and a healthy glow. In addition, facial exercises ensure good blood circulation in the skin, so that the skin cells in your face receive sufficient nutrients. This in turn helps in the renewal of skin cells and the prevention of wrinkles. The most relaxing effect is that it helps to relieve tension in the face and neck, that feels good!

Let's get physical

When you do facial exercises regularly, you train your facial muscles and exercises become easier and easier. For quick results, do exercises three to five times a week, for about twenty minutes. Below are six simple moves:

1. Warm up

Wash your hands beforehand and dry them. Then rub them well together and warm them up nicely. When your hands are warm, close your eyes. Hold your palms in front of your face and breathe in and out deeply. This yoga exercise relieves any tension in the eyes.

2. Smile for fuller cheeks

Say cheese! Smile as wide as you can and press your fingertips into the folds between your nose and lips. Try to pull your muscles up while your fingers apply resistance to the muscles. This exercise strengthens your cheek muscles, which can result in fuller cheeks.

3. Strengthen your neck

Use this facial exercise for your jaw and neck area. Press the tip of your tongue against your roof. Look up and point your chin toward the ceiling. Smile as wide as you can and swallow. Keep doing this for 30 to 60 seconds.

4. Firm your forehead

Frown to counter frown lines; yes you can. Frown as hard as you can and bring your eyes and eyebrows close together. Then do the opposite and raise your eyebrows as high as you can and open your eyes as wide as you can. Repeat these movements five times.

5. Train your lips

Sit down and tilt your head back. Pull your lips tight, push them forward and hold for 8-10 seconds. Repeat this exercise five times.

6. Lift your cheeks

Close your lips, smile softly, then suck your cheeks in as far as you can. Hold this position for 8 to 10 seconds and then release. Repeat this movement five times.

Patience is key

While facial yoga provides instant relaxation and relief, the physical results of the exercises are not visible within a day. In this case, patience is literally a virtue.
