A present for the hardworking mom or dad, a massage at home

A while ago I was asked if I would like to try a massage at home. Just relaxing, and yet not having to leave the house for that, that sounds heavenly, doesn't it? This week was the day and I'll tell you what it's like to get a massage at home from an official masseuse 😉 .

First of all I have to admit that I found it a bit exciting. You don't have to take care of anything, except a space of about 3×3 meters and a little heating. Now we have a pretty big house, but I didn't just find a 'free' space of 3×3. Yes. In the living room or the kitchen, but with a renovation at the neighbors so that the fence is out, that doesn't seem like such a success to me. Nice to see 😉 .

Upstairs, the bedrooms are large enough, but also full. Lotte's bedroom has just been renovated and there would be space there, but there is no heating there yet. And during a massage you at least want the temperature to be a bit nice. No chilling and suffering from cold feet, but lying relaxed on that massage table.

Soss… I'm pretty much in the office. There is sufficient space between the office and the storage space. Maybe not as cozy as you'd like it to be, but hey, I still have my eyes closed while massaging. And an additional advantage:I can still smell the smell of the delicious oil that was used… as I type this article!

Get a massage, why?

Have you never had a massage before and are you wondering why you should? I can't imagine anything more than that. Every time after a massage I wonder why I don't do it more often 😉 . I get that you may have to get used to the idea of getting a massage if it's new to you. But I promise you… it's a real gift to yourself. Besides that a massage is very nice and you can escape the daily hectic for a while   it is also healthy for you:

  • Massage relieves the feeling of stress
  • Physical discomforts become less or disappear
  • Massage increases blood flow so that you get rid of your waste products faster
  • The above is beneficial for weight loss and against cellulite
  • Your body becomes more flexible and your mind comes to rest

In fact, everyone should have a massage on a regular basis.

Why a massage at home?

Well, I would rather say 'why not?'. But if you're looking for a few reasons for a massage at home, I'll list them for you.

Benefits of a massage at home

  • You don't have to leave the house yourself, this saves a lot of time
  • You can simply plan in the evenings without having to arrange a babysitter
  • Would you rather be massaged during the day, no problem, the working hours are very flexible
  • After your massage you can surrender yourself to a wonderfully relaxed evening, or just go back to work, just like me 😉 . Whatever you want!

Of course, a massage elsewhere is also nice, but for me the biggest advantage is that I don't have to leave the house myself, which means it takes me much less time. Now I had a cup of tea with Sharon before and afterwards, but that is not an obligation of course.

The massages I've had elsewhere so far have always been combined with a day in the sauna. Also delicious, but different. Incidentally, I often opt for a 30-minute massage and now I was treated for 60 minutes. Also an obvious difference.

Book a massage at home

But how do you find a good masseur or masseuse who wants to come to your home? This can be done, for example, via the website of Masseuseaanhuis.nl. I was massaged by Sharon Pol, who is at home in giving all kinds of massages. I myself like to choose a mix between relaxation and sports massage, so that I not only become 'zen', but that my back and neck are also loosened up as well. Well, the result of sitting in front of the PC 6 days a week, and that for more than 20 years.

I always find a sports massage like this to have a significant impact. Not only relaxing, but it really does something to your body and muscles, I feel that immediately afterwards. It's not completely 'pain-free' if all those knots have to be massaged away, but luckily Sharon knows how far she can go 😉 .

The concept of Masseuse at home

The concept was conceived by Mirjam van Starrenburg. The range of masseuses and masseurs is excellently displayed by her via this website. When looking for and booking a massage, you can easily use the map of the Netherlands where you choose the province where you live. Then you immediately get the offer of masseurs and masseuses in that province. At the masseuse or masseur you will find a personal piece, which massages they do, what their working hours are and what the costs are and you can even read reviews from others. A great way to base your first choice. And then you will have to 'feel' yourself whether the click is there 😉 . Isn't there? Then try next time just someone else?

Massage oil used for this massage at home

Before the massage starts, you can choose the oil that she uses with you. Great, because I think the scent is really a matter of personal taste. And let's be honest… it's not really pleasant if you have a smell around you for an hour that doesn't make you really happy.

I even like the story behind the massage oil that is used within this concept. All masseuses / masseurs at Masseuse at home work with 100% natural massage oils that do not contain artificial fragrances, colors or preservatives. The massage oil is made by hand according to traditional methods, according to the Massagehuys' own (family) recipes. I could choose from 3 scents:

  • Spring Garden Oil; for renewed energy
  • Tiger Power Oil; relieves muscle pain and improves the immune system
  • Huile d'Avignon; relaxation and rest-promoting

After smelling the bottles, there were only 2 scents left for me. Also typical that the scent with lavender (Huile d'Avignon) was the first to lose weight for me, while I love lavender! In the end I chose Tigerpower Oil, a kind of light variant of the tiger balm. Wonderful scent!

Prices

The price for a 60-minute massage is between € 55.00 and € 65.00 per hour and therefore corresponds to the price of a massage in a salon, for example. Except for extreme differences, of course. But if I poke around a bit on the internet, I see that this is a fine average. The fact that the massage is at home, and therefore still has travel costs or possibly parking costs, is not reflected in the price you pay yourself. A decent service, isn't it?

What could be better with a massage at home?

For next time there are a few things I will pay more attention to myself. I'm going to make sure that I get into the relaxation phase just a little more by making some changes.

I would like to have the massage in a room that is a bit more cozy next time. If only to complete the feeling for myself. In addition, I would like the massage to be at home   in the evenings, so that I can really plan a relaxed evening for myself afterwards. Without work. I understand from Frank that he is also interested, so I think we will book for us together. Since that has to be done in the evening, I can also use the living room and make it cozy. Curtains closed and nobody sees it 😉 . The music could also be better. Now I had the radio on, but relaxing music does its job better.

I only have one challenge left to tackle… my teenage son who normally hangs out in front of the TV or is skyping loudly with friends behind his PC. He will really have to spend that evening in his bedroom!
