How are Philippe Model shoes made in six steps?

The Parisian designer Philippe Model has his shoes made in a studio in Riviera del Brenta, an area near Venice where many artisan shoemakers have traditionally been located. Here we give you an impression of the six phases that each pair of Philippe Model shoes goes through. The end result is destined for countries all over the world, from France to America and from Russia to Korea.

Phase 1 and 2:sketching the design and the choice of materials
Paolo Gambato, Philippe Model's permanent designer, has been using the same pencil for twenty-five years to elaborate his designs in detail. He devises new models with great creativity, which not only have a beautiful design, but also incorporate new technological gadgets.

In the second phase, the leather and other materials are selected. These are carefully cut and put together to create a shoe cover. The selected materials are of a very high quality. Moreover, the handicraft that is carried out in this phase is increasingly rare in the world.

Phase 3 and 4:applying the sole and gluing
The third stage – the assembly of the sole – is still done by hand in Riviera del Brenta. Thanks to the manual procedures, Philippe Model shoes meet very high quality standards. The fourth step involves gluing the shoes manually. This step in the process is very important for the quality and performance of the shoe.

Phase 5 and 6:applying the edge and packaging the final product
Finally, the edge of the sole is applied and the different materials are combined. After the shoes have been brushed by hand, the Philippe Model logo is painted on them. As a final step in the process, the shoes are boxed and shipped to the correct destination.

Made in Italy products
Philippe Model has great appreciation for the know-how of the local Italian craftsmen and deliberately chooses not to go for mass production. His sneakers, pumps and loafers are therefore extraordinarily original products, which rightfully bear the designation 'Made in Italy'.
