Sun:what are the mandatory mentions on the glasses?

Why wear standard sunglasses?

Wearing standard sunglasses is very important, especially during prolonged sun exposure. In general, you try to avoid the nasty sunburns of the beginning of the holidays, right? The same goes for your eyes. And if, unlike the skin, the eyes do not seem to react immediately to the sun's rays, the danger is just as great. In the long term, eyes exposed to the sun without sufficient protection can present a high risk of developing ophthalmia, cataracts, AMD and even cancers. Protecting your eyes from the sun is therefore imperative for your health. To do this, we take the time to get informed and read the acronyms on the frame or the labels.

Glasses:European regulatory standards

To be reliable, your sunglasses must comply with a construction and safety charter guaranteed to European standards. The "CE" ("European Community") sign and an explanatory note written in the language of the country of sale are the minimum required. This is very rarely the case with low-end glasses that you buy on the markets or in the accessories department of stores. If the "CE" mark seems to be fading, you are probably dealing with a fraudulent model. Just know it! But that's not all:the manual must indicate the degree of sun protection of your lenses (standard NF EN 1836). This one, between 1 to 4, should allow you to choose the frame and the lenses according to the use. The sun protection factor 1 to 2 provides light to medium protection and also attenuates the brightness. Index 3 is ideal for strong and prolonged exposure. Index 4 is reserved for exceptional exposure conditions such as high altitude and the reflection of the sun on the snow, but is not suitable for driving. This last mention must appear in the notice.

Sunglasses:dispel received ideas

We always imagine that dark lenses are the most protective:that has nothing to do with it! Sunglasses with opaque black lenses can have an index equivalent to 0 or 1 when lightly tinted lenses offer maximum protection! Likewise, do not think that you can wear your sunglasses for a UV session:they are not at all suitable! Always ask for special glasses. It is also the guarantee of a serious establishment. Last point:the observation of a solar eclipse requires the wearing of protective glasses manufactured by an authorized distributor. If necessary, the damage caused may be irreversible!
