Acne in adults:how to get rid of it?

What causes acne in adults?

As a reminder, acne is caused by excessive sebum production . Since the skin can no longer contain this excess, pimples form on the surface and turn into comedones (blackheads), papules (red pimples without pus), pustules (red pimples with white heads) or sometimes even cysts (hard lesions, painful to the touch and a little larger).

Acne especially marks the period of puberty, but it can also occur in adulthood. The causes are various:

  • Hormonal disorder (period of menstruation or pregnancy in women);
  • Genetics
  • Stress
  • Sun
  • Tobacco
  • Diet.

What are the factors contributing to the appearance of acne in adults?

Hyperactive people are among the most susceptible to acne. This is due to the stress they experience in their jobs and activities. In some people, acne is even a sign of overwork.

Sometimes diet is to blame when an adult develops an acne attack, especially when there is too much sugar. You should also be careful with refined products that stimulate the activity of the sebaceous glands (pastries, white bread, processed products, etc.).

Those with sensitive skin or have had a terrible experience with acne should be careful in the sun. Strong exposure can indeed lead to a rebound or a severe acne attack. Even worse, the sun can cause pigmentation and darkening of the scars left by acne pimples.

What treatments for acne in adults?

Treating acne starts with taking the right steps:

  • Limit or even stop smoking and alcohol consumption;
  • Morning and evening, gently cleanse the skin with mild products (prefer those recommended by dermatologists);
  • Avoid any source of stress;
  • Protect the skin from sunburn;
  • Favor healthy foods, especially those rich in vitamins (A, B6 and C) and zinc.

In addition, several remedies for local treatments are freely available in pharmacies. For severe forms, it is best to consult a dermatologist, at the risk of aggravating the attacks.
