Wednesday's beauty question:should I protect my hair from the sun?

Does UV damage hair?

The sun's rays weaken the keratin and dry out the hair fiber. UV rays are also responsible for hair oxidation:in the sun, the scales of the hair open up, which leads to a lightening of the fiber. Of course, you don't get "sunburn" on the hair (but on the scalp, yes)! However, at the end of summer, you can end up with very dehydrated, weakened hair. And yes, in addition to the sun, the wind, sea or pool water and sand are all factors that sensitize the hair, especially if it is colored (therefore porous). The wind, for example, lifts the scales of the hair while the chlorine breaks them. Because of this, we'll end up with split ends, and a "straw" effect to the touch.

How to protect hair before exposure?

No need to put sunscreen on your hair, its dosage is not suitable for the hair fiber... and will just grease your hair! On the other hand, you will find many hair care products on the market with UV filters. If you can, braid your hair so it doesn't get tangled. The best protection is still the hat or exposure under a dark umbrella (if it is clear, UV rays still pass).

Our recommendation:the Phytoplage Protective Veil (indicative price:19€)

How to fix hair after a day in the sun?

In the evening, brush your hair well to remove salt or grains of sand. Then wash them with a very mild shampoo and then moisturize them:mask, day cream or even hair oil, which offers a super sexy "wet" effect, especially in summer! Leave it on all night, your hair will be full of nutrients with moisturizing powers. You'll spend the summer in style!

Our recommendation:The Garnier Soleil Ultra Doux shampoo with Monoi Oil and Neroli (indicative price:€3.50) and The Beauty Hair Oil Soleil des Îles with Monoï de Tahiti (price:€7.15).
