How to choose your moisturizing face mask?

Know your skin type to choose the right mask

First of all, you must know your skin type well in order to bet on a mask adapted to your needs and your problems. There are 4 major skin types which are distinguished by their quantity of sebum, itself determined by our genetic heritage, then skin conditions determined by external factors such as pollution, stress, the environment or even hormonal changes.

Normal skin

Contrary to popular belief, normal skin is a rare skin! Neither dry nor greasy, it does not feel tight, shows little or no redness, is soft and smooth to the touch and has tight pores.
The goal? Maintain the right balance of the skin's hydrolipidic film, protect it from external aggressions and preserve its radiance.

Dry skin

It is most often thin and beautiful, with tight pores, but it is a source of discomfort and tightness. The stratum corneum of the skin may lack water and the hydrolipidic film may be damaged or too thin. It is therefore both dry and dehydrated. The skin fails to protect itself since it lacks lipids to maintain its hydration, it tends to peel. Flaking skin is skin that seems to be peeling, small pieces of skin are coming off. It is a natural process of regeneration of the epidermis but in dry skin , it tends to be more present. Ditto for acne-prone skin! If you treat your acne with products that are a little strong, you may notice that the skin is flaking in certain places.

Combination skin

This is the most common skin type. It is characterized by an oily T-zone (from the forehead to the chin) and by a dry or normal zone on the cheeks. Comfortable, combination skin may be prone to blemishes, uneven skin tone or excess oil.

Oily skin

It produces excess sebum. It is characterized by shine, thick and dull skin, dilated pores, the presence of imperfections. The oily skin is for different reasons. In particular hormonal reasons, because of pollution or stress. The wrong use of too stripping cosmetics often results in dehydrated skin.

There are also several skin conditions which will vary according to time or the hormonal cycle. Our skin can go from

  • sensitive skin, it is reactive to the slightest products or to changes in the weather
  • dehydrated, lack of water
  • dull, skin lacks radiance
  • mature, with age the skin changes.

Prepare your skin before applying a mask

The mask, a deep treatment, is concentrated in active ingredients and is used in addition to a complete daily beauty routine. Moisturizing, purifying or even radiance, masks have as many specificities as skin problems. We apply it once or twice a week, according to our needs, on clean and dry skin. For an optimal ritual, remove make-up and cleanse your skin, then use a gentle scrub. For this you can do a mechanical scrub , with an organic grain scrub.

You can also wash your face with a konjac sponge. Exfoliate eliminate dead cells and allows the active ingredients of the mask to penetrate more easily and act even more effectively. Also be sure to choose an organic and natural face mask to nourish your skin as healthily as possible!

Before talking about the choice of the mask, we wanted to give you three tips to intensify its action:

  • if you opt for a moisturizing mask, you can leave it on overnight to charge the skin with hydration and take it off when you wake up
  • before applying the mask, perform a steam bath or cover your face with a towel soaked in hot water and a few drops of lemon to open the pores of the skin
  • to strengthen the action of the mask, add a few drops of beauty oil adapted to your problem

How to choose your moisturizing face mask?

If you have combination, oily or blemished skin, head for cleansing and purifying active ingredients such as charcoal, black cumin oil, tea tree essential oil or green clay. Maison Meunier's purifying green tea and neroli mask will cleanse and revitalize the epidermis thanks to its combination of Dead Sea mud active ingredients, olive and coconut oils and rose floral water. It purifies without drying, and leaves the skin refreshed and soothed.

If your skin is dry or prone to dehydration, we rely on nourishing and protective ingredients such as jojoba, avocado or even borage oils. Vegetable butters such as shea or cocoa are also suitable ingredients. The role of the mask is to bring comfort to the skin while loading it with water. Dr Botanicals Apothecary Cocoa Superfood Hydrating Mask does just that. Enriched with softening cocoa butter and nourishing and hydrating coconut oil, this mask with a light whipped texture leaves our skin feeling comfortable, luminous and protected.

If you have mature skin, make way for plumping and redensifying masks . The idea is to smooth the skin, prevent wrinkles and fine lines. We recommend the Absolution plumping treatment, which is particularly suitable for the problems of mature skin. Applied in a thick layer, it is ultra soft and regenerating!

Think about the anti-pollution mask

Our lifestyles and our daily lives often confront us with pollution and external aggressions. We end up with a dull complexion, sometimes tired and blurred. We can then offer our skin a "detox" break with an anti-pollution mask like Madara's. Ideal for all skin types, it revives the radiance of the complexion and prevents the first signs of aging . Enriched with black charcoal and mud from Northern Europe, this face mask repairs, protects and detoxifies the skin to dissolve impurities. Full of vitamins A, it acts against the first wrinkles and fine lines while illuminating the complexion.
