Why opt for oriental waxing?

Oriental waxing, what is it?

A very natural and trendy method, depilation with oriental wax is also very old . Indeed, it was already used before the Middle Ages and is still used today in the Middle East (where it has its origins).

According to ancestral custom, all women depilate completely with oriental wax before their wedding night. This wax simply consists of 4 ingredients:water, honey, lemon and sugar. These 100% natural ingredients make it possible to create caramel, which is a sticky paste, to be applied to the skin when it is warm.

While traditional hair removal techniques require the use of a strip of fabric or a spatula, it is possible to spread oriental wax by hand and remove it in the same way. Effective, fast and natural , this technique is therefore suitable for all those who are concerned about the components of their beauty products.

Oriental wax contains no chemicals or additives, which reduces health risks to zero. Since it is natural, this waxing suitable for all skin types, including the most sensitive of them.

What are the advantages of this hair removal technique?

Oriental waxing is a depilatory technique which has advantages that traditional wax does not have:
  • It removes all the hairs on the first pass from the bulb, without breaking them, thanks to a paste made of sugar that traps all the hairs, even the shortest ones;
  • Oriental wax leaves no residue and removes dead cells;
  • Its composition is 100% natural, unlike a traditional wax full of chemical and synthetic elements (carcinogens and endocrine disruptors);
  • This makes it possible to consume better, in an eco-responsible approach that speaks more and more to women;
  • Its ingredients are environmentally assimilable and biodegradable;
  • No more need to use roll-ons or strips, which are all waste polluting nature;
  • For beauticians in institutes as well as for individuals, oriental wax is an ecological and effective alternative;
  • No risk of allergy or any other form of intolerance, since oriental wax is perfectly harmless;
  • A great softness for the skin compared to a classic wax, which is particularly appreciable on sensitive areas (shirt, armpits);
  • Use on all parts of the face and body;
  • A small amount of oriental wax can wax a very large area, so it is cost effective.

The disadvantages of sugar waxing

Oriental waxing has many more advantages than disadvantages. However, this wax may seem difficult to use at first glance since it requires know-how and a real helping hand. It starts with preparing the caramel and getting the desired texture, which is not that easy at first. Performing this type of hair removal also requires a mastery of the technique , with the good traditional gesture which is sometimes complex.

Similarly, oriental wax is applied to hairs of at least 5 mm, which requires waiting for sufficient regrowth on the area to be depilated.

How to do oriental waxing yourself?

If it is possible to perform oriental waxing by a beautician, you can also do it yourself. Unlike using a simple razor, this hair removal requires real preparation.

Why opt for oriental waxing?

Prepare your caramel

To make this recipe, you need:
    • 50 grams of powdered sugar
    • a half-filled glass of water
    • half a squeezed lemon
    • two tablespoons of honey

Heat all the ingredients together in a saucepan and mix everything together. Heat over low heat until you obtain a homogeneous and consistent paste, which takes on the golden color so characteristic of this type of wax. Check the texture beforehand, which must be soft and thick.

Pour the caramel on a flat surface and let it cool. Then, knead the wax with your hands until it turns into a malleable paste that allows you to create a medium-sized ball. This means that your caramel is ready and can be used for waxing.

Caramel should always be used lukewarm, otherwise it will not adhere sufficiently to the bristles and burn your skin. It should also not be cold, otherwise it would be unwieldy.

    The technique of oriental waxing

    Once you have managed to create a medium ball with your caramel, all you have to do is spread it on the area to be waxed by hand, without using a spatula. So you don't need any accessories or strips of fabric to remove it.

    Apply an oriental wax strip in the direction of the hair then remove it with a dry gesture by hand starting from the opposite direction of the hair. Repeat the operation, making sure to mix the wax between applications to avoid letting the wax set.

    Once the epilation is finished and your skin is soft, you can clean it with a damp, warm towel. Unlike classic wax, which leaves residues that are very difficult to remove, sugar leaves almost no residue. If this is the case, a little hot water will do the trick very quickly.

    Good to know:Do you have any unused oriental wax left? You can place it in the fridge and keep it for a maximum of 2 months in an airtight and closed container. You will then only have to heat your wax in a bain-marie or in the microwave when you want to use it again.

    Care after waxing

    After depilation with oriental wax, choose creams made from 100% natural ingredients. Like lotions or creams based on aloe vera, which calms the skin, or even argan and sweet almond. So many natural ingredients which are effective on the skin and will leave the waxed areas soft and silky for several weeks.
